In this strenuous time for us all, we’re searching for answers. As offices are being shutdown, one of the biggest questions we’ve received is how to ensure that lockdowns are enforced. Covid-19 (coronavirus) has pushed access control solutions to the forefront for companies looking to make sure that employees stay out of the office and ensuring the office is kept safe.

Of course, because we’re a cloud-based system this is quite easy and we’ve launched two new features to enable you to lockdown your office based on the needs of our customers’ organizations.

We wanted to share some access control solutions for these situations.

Situation 1: Complete lockdown

This is of course the most severe of measures. In the Genea dashboard, you can use our lockdown function to block access completely. No one comes in or out, and this can be done remotely.

However, if you are using an on-premise system across multiple campuses you may be forced to do some custom programming or settings changes.

One way you may be able to do this is by setting the schedules in your access groups to be valid on a single door for a single minute. This may be the lowest setting possible in your system. Doing this ensures that you keep the organizational structure of your system in tact so reenabling your desired settings at the end of the quarantine period easier. Do this across all access groups and you’ve essentially created a lockout.

Situation 2: Partial lockdown

In this scenario, you can apply the suggested change above to only certain access groups in your organization while leaving critical groups unchanged.

Whether you are using a cloud-based system or a legacy, on-premise system this change should be relatively easy to implement.

If you are looking for help implementing these changes to your organization’s access control system, regardless of which system please let us know. The Genea team is happy to help you, regardless of whether you are a customer or not.

We are eager to help in any way we can. Be well and stay safe everyone. We will get through this!
